Pouring with Confidence
Show Transcript
Whether you’re pouring that morning coffee or a drink for a guest, here are a few simple tips that can help you keep every drop where it belongs, no matter your level of vision.
Start with this easy trick: pour over a tray or a baking sheet.
If a few drops wander outside the cup — and they do for all of us — the tray keeps everything contained and quick to wipe up.
For cold drinks, you can rest a finger just inside the rim of the cup.
You’ll feel the liquid rise long before it gets too close to the top.
And with any drink — coffee, water, juice — listen to the sound as it pours.
As the cup fills, the sound gets higher and softer.
If you’d like something even more precise, try a liquid level indicator.
It hangs right on the rim of your cup and gives you a beep, a chime or vibration when the drink reaches the right height.
It’s a small tool, but it gives a lot of confidence.
Here’s another helpful habit: match your cup to your drink.
Dark liquids — coffee, tea, soda — show up clearly in a light-colored cup.
And light liquids pop against a darker mug.
That bit of contrast makes the fill line much easier to spot.
With a tray, a little contrast, and a few small techniques, pouring becomes predictable
and relaxed.
And that first sip — or the smile on your guest’s face — makes it all worth it.
