Learn how to safely sort pills.
Managing Medications
Show Transcript
The more medications we take, the more work it takes to make sure we take the right drug and the right dose at the right time – no matter our level of vision. But a few simple routines can bring clarity and confidence back to the process.
Start by keeping your pills where you take them. Morning medications belong by the coffee pot or breakfast table.
Evening ones can rest on your nightstand, right where you’ll see them before bed.
A weekly pill box is another small change that makes a big difference. Set aside a few minutes once a week to fill each compartment. Then, when the day begins, your pills are already sorted and ready — no guesswork, no stress.
When handling small pills, try opening the bottles over a tray or a dish with raised sides. If one slips away, it stays close at hand instead of disappearing under the table.
Magnifiers can help you clearly read the labels. Some come with built-in lights, making it easier to spot the details that matter.
There are also talking label systems and smartphone apps that read prescription information out loud. ScripTalk is one example — your pharmacy can program special labels so your phone can read the medication name and instructions clearly.
And something as simple as rubbers bands can do the trick. One rubber band around your blood pressure pills, two around your aspirin, and so on.
With a few tools and thoughtful habits, managing medications becomes simpler, safer, and more predictable — one small part of the day that’s fully under your control.
